Youth Health Advocacy Internship

²©ÓãÌåÓý of America’s Career Development Office and Health Professions Advising are excited to partner with the International School for Science and Culture (ISSAC) in Costa Mesa to offer a unique Youth Health Advocacy Internship for the Spring 2026 semester. This community-centered internship engages SUA students in health education and advocacy with ISSAC’s diverse TK–8 student body, supporting health literacy in a multicultural learning environment.

About the Partnership:

ISSAC is a dynamic school serving a diverse community of young learners in Orange County, emphasizing science, culture, and holistic development. Through this partnership, SUA interns co-develop and deliver interactive workshops focused on organ systems, nutrition, emotional wellness, and other health topics tailored to the needs and interests of ISSAC students. Interns mentor younger students and collaborate with older ISSAC youth on longitudinal projects addressing health issues relevant to their lives — such as community gardens, mindfulness practices, and preventative medicine.

What Interns Will Do:

  • Teach and engage ISSAC students from grades TK through 8 with hands-on, accessible health education
  • Mentor older students on self-directed health projects that blend science with community issues
  • Collaborate with a team of fellow interns and ISSAC educators to design culturally responsive ²©ÓãÌåÓý and advocacy initiatives
  • Support students’ reading, writing, and communication skills through health-related activities that promote literacy and wellness awareness
  • Gain practical experience in health literacy, youth mentorship, and community-based program development
  • Build leadership, teamwork, and communication skills in a real-world setting that reflects the values of contributive citizenship and social responsibility
